Vintage Peanuts Character Watches

It's always time for character watches...Watches with Character.

Vintage Peanuts Character Watches

Vintage Charlie Brown, Lucy, Peppermint Patty, Snoopy, & Woodstock Peanuts Character Watches.

"Peanuts" was a syndicated American comic strip written and illustrated by Charles M. Schulz who was regarded as one of the most influential cartoonists of all time. Peanuts ran from 1950 to 2000 and continued in reruns afterward earning over a billion dollars. Merchandising was a large part of that and thankfully for us watches were included.

Here are some of the earliest in date order from the 1970s and the 1980s:

Timex produced the first Peanuts watches in 1976. Here is smiling Snoopy on beautiful sky blue background with black numbers, a red second hand and his arms to tell the time. Marked copr 1958 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. & signed Schulz with original blue vinyl band. These smaller size watches were made for a child's wrist. This was reproduced again in 1979 & again in 1983.

This 1976 Snoopy by Timex has smiling Snoopy dancing on red background with black numbers, a yellow second hand and his arms to tell the time. Marked copr 1958 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. & signed Schulz with original red vinyl band. This was reproduced again in 1979.
These came in nice plastic presentation boxes with the watch sitting on Snoopy's doghouse. They came in red and blue with matching vinyl bands. Today, red is harder to find, but there out there.

This 1976 Snoopy by Timex has Snoopy dancing again on a bright red background with only the 3, 6, 9 & 12 numbers in black and the other numbers just marked as black dash marks with a rotating Woodstock for the second hand and Snoopy's hands to tell the time. Marked copr 1958 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. & signed Schulz.

This 1976 Snoopy by Timex has a determined looking Snoopy playing tennis holding a tennis racket and wearing his sun visor on a bright red background with black numbers outlined in white, a rotating yellow tennis ball for the second hand and his hands to tell the time. Marked copr 1958 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. & signed Schulz. Red is the harder to find then yellow but there out there... rarer then yellow below.

It was the 1970's, denim & tennis were IN so here you have a 1977 determined looking Snoopy playing tennis holding a tennis racket and wearing his sun visor on a denim blue background with black gold numbers, a rotating tennis ball for the second hand and his hands to tell the time. Marked copr 1958 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. & signed Schulz.  Inside its marked Timex zero jewel unadjusted, this one with original multicolored fabric band.
This 1978, Timex produced this determined looking Snoopy playing tennis holding a tennis racket and wearing his sun visor, this time on a bright yellow background with black numbers 3,6,9, & 12 and the other numbers just black dash marks, a rotating green tennis ball for the second hand and his hands to tell the time. Marked copr 1958 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. & signed Schulz.

This 1980 Lucy by Timex has Smiling Lucy dressed in a tan color dress and tan socks with white shoes on a white background with black numbers, a blue second hand and Lucy's hands to tell the time. Marked copr 1952 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. & signed Schulz with original white vinyl band.

Early 1980s, Determined (who made similar boxes for Charlie Brown, Snoopy & Lucy (see below)) produced a slightly larger Snoopy watch with same design as the 1976 Timex which has smiling Snoopy dancing on red background with black numbers and his arms to tell the time. Marked copr 1958 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. & signed Schulz with original red vinyl band. Determined marketed them in these red cardboard boxes with a yellow insert that states "SNOOPY HERO-TIME WATCH from the Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz") and "Watch Swiss made/Patch made in the USA another Determined production" and with a plastic overlay top, complete with a patch of a dignified Snoopy being honored with a medal on a blue background with a red border and stating "It's Hero Time" at the bottom.

Here is Charlie Brown by Determined with smiling Charlie Brown wearing his red baseball cap with a matching red and black shirt and black pants along with black shoes standing on a green field on a bright yellow background with black numbers and Charlies hands to tell the time. Marked copr 1950 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. Swiss made & signed Schulz.

Determined marketed these in these red cardboard boxes with a yellow insert that states "CHARLIE BROWN HERO-TIME WATCH from the Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz") and "Watch Swiss made/Patch made in the USA another Determined production" and with a plastic overlay top, complete with a patch of a defeated looking Charlie Brown walking off the field caring his baseball bat with his glove hanging from it on a green background with a red border and stating "I need all the friends I can get".

Here is Lucy by Determined with smiling Lucy looking pleased with herself wearing a pink dress and white shoes on a white background with black numbers and her arms to tell the time. Marked copr 1952 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. Swiss made & signed Schulz.

Lucy by Determined also had a simple red cardboard box with a bright yellow insert that states "LUCY'S WATCH WARDROBE from the Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz") and "Watch Swiss made another Determined production" and with a plastic overlay top, complete with two spare vinyl watch bands along with the white one it came attached to. NO patch for Lucy like Snoopy and Charlie had!

Here is another dancing Snoopy, a later version now, again by Determined on a black background. Marked United Features Swiss made with red box, yellow insert signed by Schulz all original in the box with a large 1970's wide MOD band. Who wouldn't want to get this for the holidays!

They also made it in yellow and orange too (it was the 1970's) with orange being harder to find.
Here is a closer look at dancing smiling Snoopy by Determined on a yellow background with black numbers and his arms to tell the time. The back is also marked United Feature 1968, shock resistant, "Snoopy watch" Swiss made, inside marked Intertime Watch Co. one jewel, Swiss made.

and the black background version.

Here we have Snoopy dome (or bubble shaped bezel) by Bradley, marked 1968 United Feature Syndicate Inc. World rights reserved Swiss made signed Schulz with original black plastic band.
Bradley made several of these for Mickey, Snoopy, Space Mouse etc.. This is the same dancing Snoopy on a black background with white numbers and his arms to tell the time. Very hard to find today.

Here is a great Snoopy from 1984 by Timex with dancing smiling Snoopy on a bright red dial with white numbers,  an orange second hand and Snoopy's hands to tell the time. Specifically marked TIMEX on the dial which isn't the norm as you can see from the previous Peanuts watches on this blog. Not sure why but for both1984 Snoopy watches, they marked the dials "TIMEX". This is the Timex petite model also marked copr United Feature Syndicate Inc. and signed Schulz for this hard to find beauty.

Here is the other 1984 Snoopy Timex produced with Snoopy napping on top of his red dog house while Woodstock sits on Snoopy's toes all on a sky-blue background with white numbers, white minute marks, black hands and a thin white second hand to tell the time.
