Hanna-Barbera Productions, Inc. was founded in 1957 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. They dominated the animation industry for over 30 years creating a wide variety of popular animated characters and cartoon series. Sold to Taft Broadcasting in the mid-sixties and then to Turner Broadcasting in the nineties and eventually absorbed by Warner Brothers Animation. Many of their character watches were produced in the 1970s with large, thick MOD wrist bands and are rare finds today.

"Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines" was a cartoon that aired September 1969.  Dick Dastardly and his dog sidekick & always snickering Muttley try to catch Yankee Doodle Pigeon who carried secret messages, hence the title theme "Stop the Pigeon".

Here is a super rare Muttley & Dastardly from the Wacky Races with Muttley and Dastardly wearing their flying gear in their pink flying machine on a sky blue background with black numbers and the planes propellers to tell the time. Swiss made 1972 and marked 1972 Hanna Barbera Prod Inc. for this amazing find.  

The Flintstones was a cartoon set in the Stone Age and aired September 1960. It was the first animated series to hold a prime time spot. I've only seen watches for Fred, Pebbles and Bamm Bamm.

Here is a 1972 Pebbles Flintstones by Bradley again with their standard Swiss movement. Pebbles is dressed in green tiger print with her hair up in a white bone on a white background black numbers and black minute marks. Notice they moved her head up so it isn't in the exact middle which makes her body seem "disconnected". I've seen both with her hands and without as the hands of the watch, but probably should have them since she has none without them. Marked H. B. P. 1972

In 1978, Picco produced this plastic watch with Pebbles & Bamm Bamm, a 7-jewel movement with Pebbles & Bamm Bamm dressed in their regular tiger skins sitting on the grass smelling flowers and watching a butterfly on a white background with green number, green hands and a thin silver second hand. Here is a 1973 super rare Peter Puck for the NHL, a concept by NBC executive/NY Rangers ticket holder Donald Carswell who partnered with Hanna- Barbera to help introduce hockey to kids. Here is smiling Peter Puck with a large yellow mouth on a gray face and big eyes & eye brows, wearing red skates all on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks, a red second hand and his red gloved hands to tell the time. What a prize! Marked Swiss made, 1973 Hanna Barbera Productions Inc. I've include this on my Sports Blog also. Very few of these around.

Quick Draw McGraw was the third cartoon created by Hanna-Barbera making its debut in 1959. A good but sometimes dim horse with a deep cowboy voice who spoofed the popular westerns of the time. 

In the 1960s, Bradley produced this rare Quick Draw McGraw watch. Quick Draw is shown in his red cowboy hat and light blue bandana with his grey gun belt and musical notes coming from his mouth on a white background with blue numbers, black minute marks and black hands to tell the time. Swiss made with the same standard Bradley movement at the time (see Yogi and Huckleberry Hound). Quick Draw, Bozo and Pinocchio are the hardest to find from these Bradley Time 1963 watches.

 

  In 1974 this super rare Quick Draw McGraw watch was produced for Hanna-Barbera. Quick Draw is shown in his standard red cowboy hat and light blue bandana with his red gun belt on a white background with black numbers, his gun filled hand for the minute hand and his other hand for the hours along with a thin red second hand to tell the time. Marked Hanna-Barbera productions Inc. 1974 with a Swiss movement.  

 In the 70's, Citizen produced this wonderful green plastic Quick Draw McGraw watch for the Japanese market. Here you have Quick Draw McGraw riding a blue scooter out to right a wrong while he's got his gun in one hand and wearing his grey hat and grey gun belt saying "This is my business" on a white background with black numbers, thin silver hands including a second hand with a blue star near the end of it to tell the time. Marked Hanna-Barbera Productions, Inc.

Scooby Doo, created in 1969, was a Great Dane and main character who was friends to Shaggy Rogers who treated Scooby like a brother & best friend. They formed “Mystery, Inc." with Daphne Blake, Fred Jones, and Velma Dinkley and solved mystery’s but the truth is Shaggy and Scooby preferred to sit around and eat.  

Here we have a rare Scooby Doo made by American Time from 1970. Scooby is smiling with his tongue out wearing a blue collar on a yellow background with black numbers and his arms to tell the time. One jewel Swiss made & marked "Scooby Doo" and 1970 Hanna Barbera Prod, Inc.

 

 

 

These came in nice presentation boxes with Scooby and the mystery van on it. Watches are rare (box is super rare today) ....and came with large, thick MOD watch bands of the 1970's.

 

Below is the same watch with a white background again with Scooby Doo made by American Time from 1970 with moving arms, Swiss made one jewel & marked "Scooby Doo" and 1970 Hanna Barbera Prod, Inc. I'm not sure why they changed to a white background.

 

This slightly smaller (most likely woman's watch) rare Scooby Doo was also made by American Time from 1970. This time Scooby is walking with a goofy look and his tongue hanging out on a yellow background with black numbers and now with regular black hands to tell the time. One jewel Swiss made & marked "Scooby Doo" and 1970 Hanna Barbera Prod, Inc.

  

Here we have two SUPER RARE 1978 Scooby Doo's made by American Watch Co. with the same "walking" Scooby dial as the previous version but this time with high quality 17 jewel Swiss movements and non-colored backgrounds, very nicely made, probably for executives at Hanna-Barbera (i've only ever seen three of these high end ones).

 Also in 1978, Picco produced this plastic Scooby Doo 7-jewel movement watch with Scooby in his usual blue collar is "walking" in scary scene with a ghost, moon and tree in the background all on a white background with brown numbers, yellow hands and a thin silver second hand. Also in 1978, Picco (by Lafayette (marked on case)) produced this SUPER RARE metal Scooby Doo 7-jewel movement watch with Scooby in his usual blue collar is "walking" in scary scene with a ghost, moon and tree in the background all on a white background with red numbers, red hands and a thin black second hand to tell the time. Same dial graphics as the plastic model above but in a metal case. Marked 1978 Hanna Barbera Production Inc. - Singapore. What a super Scooby Doo find!

 In 1984, Images of Los Angeles produced this rare Scooby Doo marked 1984 Hanna Barbera Productions Inc. Scooby is looking confident in a seated position with his blue collar on a white background, black numbers and gold hands including a gold second hand to tell the time. These were limited to 500 and came with a note thanking the employees of DFS Program Exchange for a very successful year.

In 1998, Warner Bros. Studio Store sold this Scooby Doo manual wind pocket watch (or clip watch) with waging tail. Scooby has a big grin sitting with his blue collar on a white background, black numbers and silver hands including a silver second hand to tell the time while his tail wags up and down to tick off the second.

 The back is nicely engraved "The Warner Bros. watch collection signed exclusively for the Warner Bros. Studios Store WB 17010333" 

These came in simple slide top boxes.

 

 In the 70's, Citizen produced this red plastic Top Cat watch for the Japanese market. Here you have Top Cat on the PD phone with fellow gang member Benny the Ball. Top Cat has on his pink vest and pink and black hat. It reads "Hello! this is Top Cat" on a white background with black five minute marks and thin silver hands along with a white second hand with a red heart near the end of it to tell the time. Marked Hanna-Barbera Productions, Inc.

 In the 70's, Citizen produced this white plastic Top Cat watch for the Japanese market. Here you have smiling Top Cat sitting on a blue trash can eating a sandwich off a plate. Top Cat has on his brown shirt and brown hat. It asks "I'm happy. You, Too?" on a white background with black numbers, thin silver hands including a second hand with a red star near the end of it to tell the time. Marked Hanna-Barbera Productions, Inc.

 

Yakky Doodle, "Are you my mama?" was a cartoon yellow duckling with green wings who lives with his best friend/protector Chopper the bulldog. Yakky was always running into danger. He first aired back in 1961.
Here is a 1960's or '70s rare Yakky Doodle Duck, a standard Swiss made electronically timed movement by unknown maker. Most likely an unlicensed watch. Smiling Yakky appears happy as a moving ticking worm or caterpillar moves back and forth to tick off the seconds on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks and his green wings to tell the time.

Yogi Bear was a cartoon character whose show debut in 1958. Yogi was Hanna-Barbera's first major character.  Yogi hung around fictional Jellystone Park with his friend Boo Boo. Together they would try to steal picnic baskets from campers causing trouble for Park Ranger Smith.

In 1963, Bradley produced his Yogi Bear where Yogi is smartly dressed in a red jacket with & white collared shirt with a green hat and green tie carrying his bindle while walking in the park on a white background with blue numbers, black minute marks and black hands to tell the time. Swiss made with the same standard Bradley movement at the time. Marked H.B. P. Box was simple and hard to find today.

  In 1972, Basis produced this one jewel Yogi Bear watch for Hanna Barbera Productions, Inc. Smirking Yogi is standing pointing wearing his regular green tie, white collar and green hat on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks and black hands to tell the time. Marked HBP 1972 Swiss Made. Hard to find today.

Here is a 1977 small Yogi Bear by Timex which has smiling Yogi wearing his yellow hat and yellow tie with his arms out as if hes saying "i don't know" on a yellow background with black numbers, black hands including a thin black second hand to tell the time. Marked 1977 Hanna-Barbera Productions, Inc.

 Here is another 1977 Yogi Bear by Timex this one with a rotating doughnut seconds disc. Yogi is wearing his greenish hat, greenish collar and greenish tie with his arms out stretched with a doughnut in his right paw and a rotating doughnut that counts off the seconds all on a nicely detailed forest background with black 3,6,9, &12 numbers, black marks for the other numbers and black hands to tell the time. Marked 1977 Hanna-Barbera Productions, Inc.for this hard to find treasure.

In the 70's, Citizen produced this brown plastic Yogi Bear, Boo Boo and Yakky Doodle Duck watch for the Japanese market. Smiling Yogi is wearing his green hat and green tie while plucking a purple cello that Boo Boo contently strokes with the bow dressed in his pink bow tie as smiling Yakky peers out from behind. It reads "Lets sing a song!" all on a white background with black five minute marks and thin gold hands along with a white second hand with a red star near the end of it to tell the time. Marked Hanna-Barbera Productions, Inc.

 In the 70's, Citizen produced this yellow Yogi and Boo Boo watch for the Japanese market. Here you have Yogi and Boo Boo dancing along. Smiling Yogi is wearing his green hat and green tie while Boo Boo is dressed in his usual pink bow tie. It reads "Let's enjoy life!" all on a white background with black numbers, black hands and a thin silver second hand with a green four leaf clover near the end of it to tell the time. Marked Hanna-Barbera Productions, Inc. 

 In 1978, Picco produced this plastic Yogi Bear & Boo Boo 7-jewel movement watch with Yogi & Boo Boo walking in the park with a picnic basket both dressed in a tie on a white background with yellow numbers, yellow hands and a thin silver second hand to tell the time. In 1929, Benrus produced the first Un-official Babe Ruth wristwatch with "Babe Ruth” signature facsimile on the dial for $39.75. 

Dizzy Dean, (January 16, 1910 – July 17, 1974) was an American professional baseball pitcher who played for St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, and St. Louis Browns. In 1934, he was the first sports star to be portrayed on a character watch when Everbrite Watch Company produced a full figure image of Dean pitching with a facsimile of his signature and a small second hand dial between his legs. Hard to find today especially with the original box.

In 1935, Ingraham produced a 17-jewel wristwatch with just the name “Babe Ruth” on the dial and a nice picture of him and a baseball on the box only, all for $14.95. 

In 1948, Exacta Time Corporation produced the Official Babe Ruth wristwatch even endorsed by Joe DiMaggio. A chest up picture of Ruth holding two bats is centered on a baseball diamond with a green field background and three red baseball plates along with a facsimile of his signature. The luminous numbers are off white on an outer circle with a white background with outer minute marks and with the five-minute numbers showing on an inner circle which also has black minute marks. There is a red second hand and luminous hour and minute hands to tell the time. These came in a plastic baseball (see below) also with a facsimile of his signature on it and the watch contained inside. In 1992, this was reproduced with a quartz movement.

Plastic baseball and especially the simple box it came in are hard to find today. 

In 1956, Bradley produced this Junior League Baseball watch for the kid’s market. It has a boy dressed in his baseball uniform with hat and shirt ready to swing his baseball bat in the center of a large baseball as the background with black numbers, black minute marks on a green background and black hands to tell the time. Bradley produced a Junior Nurse to appeal to girls at the time, see my 1930-1950's blog.

In the late 1950's and early 1960’s, Bradley produced several more sports watches for kids.

Bradley produced this All-Star baseball with a green background with black minutes, black minute marks and black hands with white tips to tell the time. The image of the baseball has a facsimile of the signatures of four All-Stars, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Willie Mays and Sandy Koufax. Marked Swiss made. Bradley also produced this with a black background (see below) & both usually without the Sandy Koufax signature, having it is more rare.

Here is the black background All-Star baseball without the Sandy Koufax signature which is the more commonly found version with white minutes, white minute marks and black hands with white tips to tell the time. The image of the baseball has a facsimile of the signatures of three All-Stars, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, & Willie Mays. Marked Swiss made.

At the same time, Bradley also produced an All-Pro football watch. The football is centered on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks and black hands to tell the time. The image of the football has a facsimile of the signatures of four All-Pro stars, Mike Ditka, Y.A. Tittle, Jim Taylor & Jim Brown. Marked Swiss made.

In the 1970's Babe Ruth got this great 17 jewel watch with the same chest up picture as his original watch which has Ruth holding two bats centered on a baseball diamond with a green field background and three red baseball plates along with a facsimile of his signature. This dial has baseball players for each number position along with Roman numbers on a white background with outer minute marks, black hands and a black second hand to tell the time. 

In the 1970's Babe Ruth got another watch this time a 17 jewel beauty by Helbros with "The Bambino's" picture of his head wearing his Yankees cap on a white background with blue circles for the numbers and black minute marks, perfect baseball bat hands and a second hand with a baseball at the end to tell the time. Marked with a facsimile of his signature and the word baseball for this seldom seen watch.

1970s Hank Aaron by Trice Watching Company. One of the greatest baseball players ever, "Hammering" Hank Aaron is all smiles wearing his black Braves cap and white jersey on a sky blue background with baseball bases for numbers 3,6 & 9 and black numbers for the rest along with black minute marks and black hands to tell the time. Marked with a facsimile of his signature and Swiss made at the bottom of this great but hard to find watch.

In the 1970s, the Lafayette Watch Co. produced this Cincinnati Reds watch with the Reds mascot dressed in the Reds white and red uniform including a red cap pitching a ball and looking intently down the line on the big red C logo all on a white background with black numbers and silver/black hands to tell the time. Marked Lafayette Watch Co. Swiss Made. 

 Here is Charlie Brown by Determined from the 1970s which is also featured on my Peanuts blog. Charlie Brown is standing on the pitcher's mound wearing his red baseball cap with a matching red shirt and black pants on a bright yellow background, black numbers, and Charlies hands to tell the time.

 Here is a Harlem Globetrotters by Bradley from 1972. Here we have a Globetrotter in their standard red, white, and blue jersey, having all the moves on the court. It has red numbers with red minute marks except for the 3, 6, 9, & 12 which look like basketballs and has his arms to tell the time. Marked Swiss made at the bottom.

 Lafayette also made a version in 1974. Here the big smiling Globetrotter is depicted as running in his blue and white star jersey with red and white stripped shorts, red and white socks and blue sneakers with red soles all on a white dial with blue 3,6,9.12 and blue stars for the other numbers, his arms to tell the time along with a basketball that rotates as the second hand. Marked with the world Harlem Globetrotters symbol and Swiss made, Lafayette Watch Co. 1974 Harlem Globetrotters Inc. at the bottom.

 Also, in the 1970’s, Bradley produced several Mickey Mouse and Goofy sport watches for Disney which you seldom see on the secondary market except for the Mickey/Minnie Tennis watch (see below). 

 

Here is Mickey Mouse baseball by Bradley. Mickey is at bat wearing a big smile, green hat, off white uniform, and yellow shoes with cleats all on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks, black hands and a red second hand WITH a baseball on the end to tell the time. Marked Walt Disney Productions Swiss made. A rare find today.

Here is Mickey Mouse basketball by Bradley. Mickey is dribbling the ball wearing a big smile in his yellow top and blue shorts and his two-tone sneakers all on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks, black hands and a black second hand WITH a basketball on the end to tell the time. Marked Walt Disney Productions Swiss made. A rare find today.

 

Here is Mickey Mouse by Bradley in his football uniform. Mickey has a big smile while holding his football helmet wearing his red jersey with the number one on it. He has his foot on the football all on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks, black hands and a red second hand (with no ball on the end) to tell the time. Marked Walt Disney Productions Swiss made.

These came in either a plastic Bradley pouch, a square clear case as noted below for Mickey playing soccer or these coffin style boxes. This one with a faded pic of Mickey playing football on one side and a faded description on the other side, still a nice treasure!

With the Bradley Disney sport watches, some versions have the balls on the end of the second hand while others don't. Here is an example of Mickey football with the ball at the end of the second hand compared to the one above without it.

Here is a super rare Mickey Mouse jogger watch by Bradley Time from the 1970s. Mickey Mouse is the second hand that rotates around the dial appearing to be jogging win a white circle in the middle with his name on a larger circle with red numbers as race signs on a gold background, red hands to tell the time and of course jogging Mickey Mouse that rotates for the seconds. Marked Swiss made, Walt Disney Productions. This prize is also listed under my Mickey Mouse, the Original Character watch blog.

 Here is Goofy playing hockey by Bradley. Goofy is in action on his skates following the puck at the 5 position with his stick in the air and his helmet flying off wearing a red shirt, yellow shorts, black/red leggings and with white skates and gloves on a white background with black numbers, red dots for the five marks and black hands to tell the time. Marked Walt Disney Productions. Who wouldn't want this amazing & super rare sport Goofy watch?

Here is a rare Goofy playing soccer by Bradley. Leaping Goofy is got his hands in the air to stop the ball dressed in a yellow shirt and pants with blue shoes and pink socks on a white background with black numbers, red minute marks for the fives and black minute marks for the rest and black hands to tell the time. Marked Bradley, Swiss made, Walt Disney Productions for this hard to find beauty.

 

 Here is a rare Mickey Mouse playing soccer where his foot ticks back and forth for the seconds by Bradley 1978. Smiling Mickey is dressed in a blue and white outfit to play soccer about to kick the soccer ball into the goal on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks and black hands to tell the time. Marked Bradley, Swiss made, Walt Disney Productions. I've also seen Mickey in a red and white outfit on a half green (to look like grass) background, see below.

 

These Bradley watches usually came in their standard square plastic boxes, plastic sleeves or coffin type boxes.

Here is a rare Mickey Mouse playing soccer where his foot ticks back and forth for the seconds by Bradley 1978. This is essentially the same as above soccer watch but with Smiling Mickey on a green background that looks like grass this time dressed in a red and white outfit to play soccer about to kick the soccer ball into the goal with black numbers, black minute marks and black hands to tell the time. Marked Bradley, Swiss made, Walt Disney Productions.

 

Here is Goofy playing tennis by Bradley. Looking like he just hit the ball with his broken racket, Goofy is in a blue hat, blue sweats, and his white & blue tennis shoes on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks, red dots for the five marks and black hands including a black second hand to tell the time. Marked Swiss made Walt Disney Productions.

These came in the standard Bradley Time square plastic boxes. 

Mickey Mouse playing tennis by Bradley.  Smiling Mickey is in good form about to return a lob dressed in white shorts with a side blue stripe and a turquoise blue shirt with white collar on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks, black hands including a black second hand WITH a tennis ball at the end of it to tell the time. Marked Walt Disney Productions, Swiss made. What a great super rare find.

Mickey Mouse & Minnie playing tennis by Bradley. Mickey and Minnie are enjoying a game of tennis both wearing white on a green tennis court background all on a larger white background with only minute marks for the numbers, black hands and a black second had WITH a tennis ball at the end to tell the time. 1980s Muhammad Ali by Bradley has the Great one ready for action in his boxing shorts and gloves on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks, black hands including a black second hand and his facsimile signature.  Marked Herbert Muhammad Enterprises Inc. Swiss made, “The Greatest” and Bradley on his waist band.

This Snoopy football by Q&Q has Snoopy kissing Peppermint Patty who is dressed in her usual stripped red & blue top with matching shorts and her usual leather sandals with a blue football helmet on her head along with Snoopy in an orange football helmet leaning in to give Peppermint Patty a "smak!" sounding kiss on the lips on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks, black hands and an orange second hand to tell the time. Signed by Schulz marked 1958 1966 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. Japan 6-121781 yn. 

Here is another Snoopy football by Q&Q with Snoopy wearing a brown football helmet and his one leg up in the air as if he's kicking but Woodstock is sitting on Snoopy's foot with a big smile on a sky blue background with black numbers, black minute marks, white hands and a thin silver second hand to tell the time. Signed by Schulz marked 1958 1965 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. Japan 6-122132yn

 Here is a great Q&Q with Snoopy dressed for golf with his red/white stripped cap holding a red golf club getting ready to tee up but Woodstock is sitting on the tee looking like he isn't going to budge all on a wonderful green background by Q&Q with black numbers, white hands and a thin red second hand to tell the time. Signed by Schulz marked 1958 1965 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. Japan 6-122124 yn 
 

This Q&Q has Snoopy playing tennis wearing his red sun visor and holding his racket on a yellow background with black numbers, black minute marks, white hands and an orange second hand to tell the time. Signed by Schulz marked 1965 United Feature Syndicate, Inc. Japan 6-121756.

1970s, Snoopy playing tennis by Timex has a determined looking Snoopy playing tennis, holding a tennis racket and wearing his sun visor on a red background with black numbers outlined in white a rotating tennis ball for the second hand and his hands to tell the time. Here is a 70s/80s Bugs Bunny produced by R Gsell and Company for Warner Brothers. Bugs is wearing a red baseball cap and wearing his glove waiting to play ball on a white background with black numbers and his arms to tell the time along with a baseball that rotates for the second hand. Marked "I'm Bugs about baseball", Warner Bros. Inc. Swiss made. This watch is also featured in my Warner Brothers blog. 

Q&Q produced this baseball girl watch for the Japanese market. The blond girl is brightly dressed in a red hat, red shorts and red shoes with a purple, white and green top and green and white socks as she swings for the ball all on a white background with purple 3,6,9,&12 and purple hearts for the other numbers with black hands and a orange second hand to tell the time.

 Here is a KIX cereal watch made by Lafayette Watch Company that was a give away back in the 1970s to promote soccer. A red and white soccer ball on a white background with black numbers, black hands and a red second hand to tell the time. Marked Made in Hong Kong.

 Here is a 1979 Sport Billy by Bradley for the FIFA (Federation International Football Association), mostly sold in Europe. Sport Billy is dressed in a red uniform with white pants and red/white socks. His foot ticks back and forth for the seconds. This is the same Bradley watch they used for Mickey Mouse (see above). Sport Billy is on a green background for the grass and a larger white background with yellow numbers, black minute marks and red hands to tell the time. Marked Sport Billy Productions 1979, Swiss made FIFA. What a great find.

 

Here is a 1979 Sport Billy Tachymetre for the FIFA (Federation International Football Association), mostly sold in Europe. Slightly smiling Sport Billy is dressed in a red uniform with blue pants and red/blue socks as he is kicking the ball on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks and black hands to tell the time. Marked Swiss made with the FIFA symbol.
