How much is your character watch worth?
Please don't ask me, i won't respond to price questions any longer.
Economics 101, YOUR character watch is worth what someone else will pay for it.
Most character watches were made for children and therefore not the highest quality. They were meant to be used and enjoyed. The most frequently asked question I get is what is my character watch worth?
For someone like me that enjoys preserving & sharing these watches, it means they should work and look their best for their age. Sadly, most you find on the secondary market usually don't work and are often missing parts. Just a cleaning means at least a $60 expense which means that wanting them to work is a labor of love AND it means that you have to ask YOURSELF is it worth servicing your character watch? For me the answer is always yes, but for you,
please consider:
Desirability - Are people buying? You can do a search of online auction sites of "completed" items and see if other similar watches have sold and even how much they sold for.
Condition - What shape is it in? Especially the dial. Is the case corroded or scratched? Usually they are over wound or missing a crown or crystal which are easy repairs. Can you adjust the time even if the watch is not working?
Rarity - Collectors will often overlook condition based on rarity! On my blog i try to write rare or "not seen too often" etc.
Repair/Restore - You'll have to track down a good watch maker, a chore in itself. Many don't want to deal with character watches, especially older ones needing parts and then as mentioned, it will cost depending on the type of service, cleaning or a full restore.
I hope that helps a little....
