Vintage Advertising Non-Food Related M-Z Character Watches

It's always time for character watches...Watches with Character.

Vintage MA Bell, MAD Alfred E. Newman, Matchbox, Ms Pac-Man, Pac-Man, RAID, Sam Olympic Eagle, Scrubbing Bubbles, Toppie the Top Value Stamps Elephant, Mr. Whipple, Whittles the miner-Knotts Berry Farm Character Watches.

Advertisers often used characters, mascots or just their trademarks to help sell their products. Here are some for the Non-food related characters or trademarks.

Concepts Plus produced this 35 anniversary Alfred E. Newman Mad Magazine watch with Alfred tied up practically saying "What me worry?" on a white background with black numbers, a red second hand and his feet to tell the time. Marked Concept Plus Hong Kong.
In 1971, the Timely Watch Co produced this MA Bell watch for Bell Telephone (later AT&T) with a Swiss movement. It shows Ma standing on a telephone dial which is why the numbers appear different than most watches. It has gold hands including a red tipped gold second hand.
1976 Depraz produced this different version of Ma Bell for Telco Pioneers Swiss made with Ma in a hard hat on the phone with round circles to represent a phone dial on a white background with black hands and a red second hand.
In the late 70's & 80's, Bradley produced this watch for Matchbox for Lesney. This Swiss made watch has two matchbox cars circling the dial to tick off the seconds and the Matchbox colors of red & yellow for the minute indicators with white numbers on a blue background and the Matchbox banner at the top this is a rare find today due to its cross over collectibility where the Hot Wheels watch pictured above is easier to find.
1983, Bradly Time produced this Pac-Man watch with their standard Swiss movement, here with the Pac-man ghosts, Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde around the dial and Pac-Man about to eat them all on a black background with just the 3, 6, 9 & 12 numbers shown and white hands to tell the time.

1983, Bradly Time produced this harder to find Ms Pac-Man watch with their standard Swiss movement, here with a sort of three D effect. You have Ms Pac-man in full center and ghosts, Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde around the dial all on a black background. On the second hand, you have Ms Pac-Man & a ghost that rotate. The same 3, 6, 9 & 12 numbers show like Pac-Man version, same white hands and the special second hand.

These came in Bradley's standard plastic case with see
through top, a great find today.

In 1980, Paxxon Corp. (a Subsidiary of Diversified Greyhound) made these super rare jeweled Ms Pac-Man and Pac-Man watches. Sold with great slogans such as "Telling Time Was Never So Much Fun!" and "We Make Watches That Tell More then Just Time" and "Any watch can tell you just the time, but Pac-Man Watches gobble all day long for you". These were advertised as "Fantastic new Floating Disc Technology makes the unique PAC-MAN Watch gobble up those power dots, ghosts and even cherries as it turns and tells time!"  These are made with "durable colorful bands" and bright plastic bezels and a "Swiss jeweled movement". Below with them side by side, you can see pink Ms Pac-Man is slightly smaller then regular Pac-Man and both are super hard to find today, I'm told because they didn't last long.
Here is super rare Pac-Man by Paxxon with a beautiful royal blue bezel with matching blue vinyl band. Pac-Man is a bright yellow floating disc which rotates on a matching blue dial simulating his gobbling ghosts, power dots and cherries which each have a number on them in black to tell the time. Swiss jewel movement. The ads for these are more common then finding a watch for sale, but some are out there.

Here is super rare Ms Pac-Man by Paxxon with a beautiful pink bezel with matching pink vinyl band. Ms Pac-Man is a bright yellow floating disc with a red bow and red lipstick which rotates on a royal blue dial simulating her gobbling pink ghosts, power dots and cherries which each have a number on them in black to tell the time. Swiss jewel movement. These are out there but very hard to find.

Here is a great RAID watch by Basis which has the RAID bug spray can looking like he's ready for business, strong and determined to kill bugs on a white background with grey marks for the numbers, black hands and a bug that rotates around the dial for the seconds. Marked 17 Jewels and Swiss made on the dial and internally, what a great watch.

In the 1970's or 80's Marcell produced this Scrubbing Bubbles watch with "Scrubby" the scrubbing bluish bubble and his yellowish scrubbers smiling on a white background with black numbers and yellow hands outlined in blue (an unusual characteristic) and a red second hand.

Sam Olympic Eagle by Pateau 1984 was sold at the Olympics in Los Angeles, CA. Sam is wearing a red and white hat with the Olympic symbol along with a bow tie on a white background with black numbers, silver hands and a second hand to tell the time. Marked Hong Kong at the bottom.

In the 1950's, Ingraham produced this Toppie the Top Value Stamps Elephant character watch with Toppie wearing his blanket. They were similar to green or blue stamps that people collected with purchases and then could redeem for products. Smiling Toppie is on a white background with black numbers and black hands to tell the time.
Here we have a super Mr. Whipple aka George the Grocer watch for Charmin. Mr. Whipple is depicted perfectly wearing white with his furrowed brow, black hair, mustache and glasses holding up the Charmin emblem practically asking you not to squeeze the Charmin on a white background with 3,6,9, & 12 in black and the other numbers just as black dots with black hands including a black second hand to tell the time. Marked 1982 P & G (for Procter and Gamble). What a great find.
In the 1970's, we have "Whittles" the miner from Knotts Berry Farm, a California amusement park character designed by Pete Winter. Happy, Scruffy old Whittles dressed in his mining outfit was used all over the park. Here he is on a white background holding his pick axe and with a welcome wave and smile, gold hands and a gold second hand to tell the time.
