Vintage Uncategorized 1970's (J - M) Character Watches

Vintage Lassie, Laurel & Hardy, Louis Armstrong, Jerry Mahoney, Merrie Mouse, Moomin, Moppet, My Unico, Mystery Sleuth character watches.

I chose to break down my listing of character watches by studio, character or group so of course we have some uncategorized watches that have to be presented, these are some of the more popular from the 1970s  - in alpha order.
for other 1970s,   See 1970's A - B
                            or 1970s C
                            or 1970s D
                            or 1970s E - I
                            or 1970s J - M
                            or 1970s N - Q
                             or 1970s R - Z

Lassie, again by Bradley Time Division has Lassie posing on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks with numbers every five marks, black hands and a thin blue second hand to tell the time. Marked Swiss made, 1968 WC copyright for this hard to find beauty.

Laurel & Hardy by Dirty Time has their two heads as the hands of the watch with 70's MOD bold purple, red and dark red colors on a white background and just numbers at 3, 6, 9, & 12 along with a black second hand. Marked Swiss made 1970.

Here is a great Louis Armstrong by an unknown maker nicely made with Hamilton Buren 17 jewel movement which has the great jazz and blues trumpeter and vocalist "Pops" Louis Armstrong singing his heart out on a white dial with 3,6, 9 & 12 numbers in red and musical notes for the other numbers with gold hands including a second hand to tell the time. Marked 17 jewels at the bottom for this amazing watch which i'm unable to find any more info on.
Here is Jerry Mahoney the Paul Winchell puppet by Jerry Layne Enterprises. Jerry is looking like he's about to speak in his blue fringed suit including blue bell bottom pants and black shoes right out of the 1970's on a white background with just dots for the numbers and his hands to tell the time. Marked Jerry Mahoney Original. PW 1971 for this unusual and rare automatic watch.
I believe these were a mail in item produced and sold by Jerry Layne Enterprises in Northridge, California as this simple original box illustrates.

Merrie Mouse by BTD, I believe is a takeoff of Minnie Mouse as far as i can find out but not licensed by anybody although the dial is marked "BTD" which usually mean Bradley Time Division but this is a Basis Watch Company watch from the internal markings. Merrie Mouse is dressed in hot red pants with a huge red bow on her head, yellow boots and a yellow shirt for her arms all on a white background with black numbers, black minute marks with the fives marked off. Marked BTD Swiss made.

1975 Moomin by Timex for the Japanese market. Moomin was created by Finnish writer and artist Tove Jansson, there were nine books of the Moomins from 1954-1975. Here is Moomin on a white background with red numbers, red hands and a red second hand to tell the time. Marked Timex 39306  12475 for this hard to find beauty.

1975 Moomin by Timex for the Japanese market, upside down this time. Moomin looks like he's doing a cart wheel on a white background with black numbers, blue hands and a blue second hand to tell the time. Marked Timex 39301  12475 for this amazing beauty which is even harder to find then the non-upside down one.

This great watch came in these simple cardboard slide boxes with a see-through front.

Here is Moppet "jump hour" watch by E. Gluck Trading Company. Moppet goes with Skippy on my 1970's P-Z blog and is similar to Raggedy Ann and Andy. Red headed smiling Moppet looks like she's dancing in her usual blue and white summer dress with white pantaloons, red socks and black shoes all while she's holding a huge flower on a white background with the time display to the far left, the hours are white numbers on red background while the minutes are white numbers with black background. Marked Swiss made.

Q&Q produced this My Unico for the Japanese market. Always happy Unico sits with his friend Chao spreading happiness all on a pink background with six sky blue stars and black numbers, black minute marks, red hands and a white second hand to tell the time. Marked Copr 1977 Sanrio CO. LTD. Texuka Productions CO. Japan 6 123091 YN.
Here is Mystery Sleuth National Multiple Sclerosis READ-a-thon by Bradley Time division which has their blood hound dressed in red plaid like Sherlock Holmes including his wool cap reading a book holding a magnifying glass and notepad all on a white background with red dots at 3,6,9 &12 with black numbers, black minute marks and black hands to tell the time. Marked Swiss made for this unusual watch.
